Webdev X built a website for Company Y. Webdev X also hosts the site. CompanyY has not been satisfied with the speed (or lack thereof) with which the site was built along with a few other things. (Estimate was for 3 months but it took a year). Company Y has asked me to take over site maintenance and to move it to a different web server, away from WebdevX. When company y notified them, Webdev X asked them to sign a waiver stating: "I will also need to forward you a waiver of support, stating that you have made the decision to change web hosts (and developers); therefore WebdevX will no longer be held responsible for any errors or functionality due to changes in the site's code and structure. If needed, I will be happy to provide you with the original Photoshop (design) files when I receive the signed waiver. " |

I'm not griping about it, I'm just wondering: are such waivers standard? |

IMO webdevx is very sensibly drawing a line under the previous relationship. ie: if you screw it up don't blame him for what's not in his control! Grant Webdev X built a website for Company Y. Webdev X also hosts the site. CompanyY has not been satisfied with the speed (or lack thereof) with which the site was built along with a few other things.
