Waiting for Server timeouts

I'm wondering if there's any way to reduce the amount of time alotted to the
"waiting for server" dialogue during file transfer?

a faster internet connection or server would really be it I think,

Sorry I didn't specify.. my bad. Selecting the Passive Mode for the FTP...
we moved to new servers which was when this started cropping up more often
for all of my sites.
