Default Visitor Account Logins - 07-03-2008 , 09:51 AM

Hi,

I have a friend starting a small photography company that asked me to build a
website for him. As we've gottne into he has had multiple customers wanting to
have a way to login to his site and view demos of his work for them.

I have MS Access and starting trying to build using that, but I can't set it
up to add images and I'm not even certain if I can create a secure login with
multiple accounts. Is there a better way?

Thanks for any help.

Are you experienced with building data-driven sites? What scripting
languages are you familiar with? What operating system is your hosting
server using?

If you are not experienced with building data-driven sites, then I'm afraid
you will face a long, and tedious uphill climb, and I'm *sure* you will not
be doing your friend any favors.

No, I'm not experienced with building data-driven sites. Making websites is
really a new hobby for me that I'm beginning to really enjoy. However, I would
like to learn the more complex stuff.

I am beginner-level familiar with javascript. I am still learning but am
starting to figure it out.

Their host is godaddy.com.

So, since I have a long and tedious uphill climb ahead of me,
1) What should I recommend for my friend to help him out now?
2) Where do I start my climb so I can do this in the future?

Hire someone to do this job. It's not a beginner's project.

Great! Thank you so much. I've already done the HTML part and have a little
background in CSS. The rest looks like it will help get me there.

After I've become familiar with CSS more from the listed articles will the
final article (dynamic-pages) show me how to create the secure user login?

Thanks again.

For a beginner I would suggest starting with DW's built in server behavior for
user authentication. Just press F1 and read about it in DW help.

No. But it will show you how to begin thinking about a data-driven site,
and some of the techniques use to build pages to display information pulled
from the database. If you can get that far, then user authentication is a
simple extension of that knowledge.

I want to reiterate, though, as an initial foray into such sites you will
not do your friend any favors.

You will need to know the why, not just the how. There is much to be
learnt to do this, so be patient and do the learning before making the
big step into doing it for a clients site...even if it is your friend

What do you mean the why?

I'm seeing there is a lot to learn before I could begin to take this on but, what do you mean, "the why?"
