Default Video Clip Formats - 08-11-2008 , 04:04 PM

Just realized my .MOV clips cannot be viewed in IE7 without forcing users to
download QuickTime. Is there a preferred video clip viewer that is native to
both? Please don't say "Flash!"

Also, a preferred format and compression method. For simple screen captures,
8 fps.

Why not? Flash has wider support than any other. It's the format used on
MySpace, YouTube, Google Video and other video sharing sites. There are
many flash video converters available if you don't already have one. To
name a few...

Riva Flash encoder
Ultra Flash encoder
Coffee Cup Video Player
IMToo
SwishVideo

Flash is about as user-friendly-slash-cross-platform as you can get...linux
and iphones aside.

Ideally, you'd offer Flash and MPG files. MPG is fairly universal, but not
nearly as user-friendly especially if you are using unusual codecs.

That doesn't mean we should all bow down to big " Flash".

Here's another alternative - i have no direct experince - but worth a
look.

Vimeo is similar to YouTube... when you upload the video file, it converts
it to a Flash FLV file for progressive video downloads... so it's kind of
hypocritical for you to complain about people bowing down to the Big Flash
altar and then telling her to check out something that converts it to Flash
video

If you have Flash Professional installed, you can convert the file to an FLV
and do a progressive download video (like YouTube). It will probably give
you the best results/most compatibility these days.

So - does anyone have experience with any of these products? I am looking for
a good program that will allow me to put flash videos in a site I am working
on. Thanks! -Dannoman88

Silly, nobody's talking about bowing. How about just not having an
irrational negative response every time Flash is mentioned? :-) This is a
perfect example of something that Flash does better than any other
technology.

That's a video sharing site - it looks nice, but it's not what the OP was
asking for.

Yes. They all work. I have them all. Some do things a little better than
others. Different tools for different tasks. Remember, garbage in; garbage
out. Start with the highest quality video file (AVI or MPG) and convert to
Flash from that.
