Default Using Templates to Restrict HTML - 07-06-2004 , 12:50 PM

Is there any way to use a Dreamweaver Template to restrict a user from adding
certain HTML tags? Meaning, I want to create an editable region that users can
only enter text into and are not able to add images or tables into. I am using
Dreamweaver MX and Contribute 2 but Contribute seems to provide the necessary
restrictions only when templates aren't being used.

Thanks...

I don't understand this statement -

There is no way using templates to restrict the type of content being added
to an editable region.

Contribute seems to provide the necessary restrictions only when templates
aren't being used

In Contribute, under the Website Administration settings for a particular user
group, you have the option to "allow unrestricted editing" or "only allow text
editing and formatting." Selecting the latter option restricts users from
adding images or tables. However, these options only work on "non-template"
pages and I was wondering if there was any way to extend Contribute's
administrative restrictions to pages that use Dreamweaver Templates.

Oh - I understand. I have not used that option - are you sure it does not
work on template controlled pages?

Yes I'm sure -- the Contribute restriction options are presented under the
label "on pages not protected by Dreamweaver templates:" If a page doesn't
use a template it works fine -- users can only edit text and add links, but as
soon as they are given a template-controlled page, they have full control over
any editable regions...and this is bad because our users don't have enough
knowledge to have control over tables and images, etc.

That's why this is giving me such a problem...restricting what users can edit
would be such a useful feature if it could be combined with the power of a
Dreamweaver template. I'm not that familar with Dreamweaver templates so I was
just wondering if there was any way to override the Contribute setting with a
template option or some other workaround.
