Default Using DMW8 on DMW4 site - 01-01-2006 , 05:43 AM

A freind has created a site for me in Dreamweaver4, and I am editing it using
Dreamweaver8.
Mostly this works fine, but if I edit the .dwt template, it does not update
the pages as it does in DMW4 and gives error messages for nearly every page.

Once reloaded in DMW4 the pages update easily.! Any advice?

Mike, new user.

Open the template file and resave it as a template in DW8. That should solve
your problem. If not you may need to post the code because I honestly don't
know what differences might exist between the 4 versions of template code and
minor modifications might be needed in order for it to update properly on DW8.

This will make no difference.

There is a huge difference between DW4-level template syntax and DMX-level
template syntax. The only way (that I know of) to change from the former to
the latter would be to do it manually.

To do that, change all instances of -

#BeginEditable "

to -

TemplageBeginEditable name="

and -

#EndEditable

to -

TemplateEndEditable

I think that will do it.

However, if you are getting errors then there is something in the code that
we need to see. Can you post a link to one of these templates and specify
what you are changing that gives you errors?
