URL names and google, apologies but cannot findinformation anywhere

Just wondering if anyone knows when google analyses URL domain names for
applicability, does it consider all fragments of names, or just complete words.
For example if i had player.com, would it recognise 'play' and 'player' or just
player as a keyword.

And sorry, but what about if you had a duff name on the end of one, such as
playerz.com, would play then get recognised? how about if you had display?
where dis is not a word, but display and play are, would play be at all
acknowledged?
