Default Uploading Site to FrontPage Server - 08-20-2004 , 02:18 PM

My website was designed in DWMX. The server does not allow FTP and is a
FrontPage Server. I downloaded the ProntPage Extensions and I am having
problems uploading the site to the server.

I am getting two error messages:

1) Warning: the selected folder does not contain the current sites home page.
The site map cannot be built

2) Unable to authenticated with FrontPage server. Please ensure that you have
Basic authentication enabled on your remote resources and that your
username/password has a valid account and corrent permission.

I have followed all the steps in various help menus but I am not having
success. The help menu shows only FTP and there is nothing about FrontPage.

Any information or guidance is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

You cannot use DW with this server.

I have never seen anyone use those DW FP extensions successfully.

If I'm understanding you correctly, you're trying to upload a site to a
FrontPage Server which doesn't allow FTP using Dreamweaver, right? I don't
think that can happen. FrontPage doesn't use FTP, it uses the HTTP protocol,
and I "believe" you have to have FP in order to upload that way.

Thank you for the reply.

Originally I zipped and e-mailed the eniter site to my server admin. Teh site
is currently running. Everytime I have to e-mail the pages and it is time
consuming.

Are you indicating that DWMX does not work on a FrontPage server or that once
created it can not be succefully uploaded directly to the server using the
FrontPage Extensions.

And what are the solutions. Should the server have a diffrent platform to
support the DWMX?

Sites created in DWMX will work just fine on a server with FrontPage
extensions. It's plain ole code. Your problems are twofold:

1. If they won't enable FTP then you have no way to upload the files other
than using FrontPage.

2. If the site was created in FP and uses extensions, then mixing it with DW
(and FTP!) is asking for trouble. But if it's a site purely created in DW,
then the key is to get them to enable FTP for you.

and if they refuse to do that, find a host who does. I use Crystaltech
(http://www.crystaltech.com) .. they allow Front Page but FTP also so it's a
snap to disable the Front Page extensions and just FTP with DW.

There are so many good hosts out there .. FTP is a very basic need in a site
... there is no reason to put up with a difficult situation like this.
