Default Uploading issues - 11-03-2005 , 05:38 AM

Hello

I have very limited knowledge, just enough to modify my site and upload, I'm
learning all the time but it's a bit overwhelming at times for a silver
surfer.... : ) Working on a Mac. If anyone can help with following issues I'd
be very grateful:

1. When I update any page on my site and say 'yes' to 'include dependent
files?", another images folder is created on the remote server with just the
images for that page. It messes up the whole site and I have to delete this
second images folder on every update. Synchronise to just update new changes
instead of re-uploading whole pages every time might be the answer?, but that
option is dimmed out when the page has been saved.

2. I'm really baffled by this latest mystifying episode. Managed to update
several pages on the site, but one page, though shown on the remote server as
the new updated page (if I double click it on the remote server files, it even
opens in DW as it should be) but on the web, the old page is still showing. I
have deleted cache on both my browsers and deleted the page and reloaded it,
but it is still only showing the old page.

Thanks for any help
Hj

Hello Gypsey,

I think you need to configure the root directory on your server (httpdocs,
htdocs, www/ whichever your ISP gave you). If DW is creating the folder it
means you are not uploading the page where it should be. Check that out.
This can also be the reason your old page is still showing up, maybe the
browser is displaying the page on the proper root folder while you are
uploading above the root.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Trevis

This means that your local site definition or your remote site definition is
wrong.

Please tell me what you have in the HOST DIRECTORY field of the Advanced tab
of your REMOTE site's definition, and what you have in the Advanced tab of
the Local root folder field.

What is the URI to this page so I can take a look at it, please.

Greetings Murray

I didn't see your response until today, I thought I got an email if someone
responded, but that must be Apple support, I decided to check anyway today and
here you are! Thank you so much for responding, I hope it's not too late to
still get your advice.

The information you requested:
the host field on the remote site says /broadh.com
and the local root folder says: macintosh HD:Users:HJJ:Sites:BH2005

With that one page that didn't update, it apparently was something to do with
my isp keeping the old info on cache, it righted itself after a few days, but
that's not going to work on an ongoing basis, I'll contact the isp if it
happens again.

Meanwhile, any help you can give on that duplicate images folder will be
gladly received.

Thank you so much
Helen

That's what is in the Host directory field? That shouldn't be there.

Let's try again -

In the Remote site's advanced tab, there are several fields. Please tell me
what is in the field for the FTP host, and the field for the Host directory.

It depends on the host and the way they have configured their servers. I
use Dreamhost and they use the domain name as the directory for public
html files. The poster needs to check with their host to see what, if
any, directory their public html files need to be placed in.

I have been experiencing the same issue where I edit files in Remote View and
then save and refresh my pages and it still does not show the update. The
Synchronise function works once in a while and it has become VERY annoying for
me and my developers. Would it be something to do with Enable Cache Mode on
your site setup dialog box. Can someone please give me a solution to this? When
I also do a Remote to Local Copy in DW8 I sometimes notice that the files are
different sizes so I copy them across vice versa which ever is the latest
updated file and it still sometimes does not work. On certain instances I have
the issue of having to check in the file to make it work and then that does not
work sometimes. I also have a feeling it has somethin to do with Contribute if
you have it loaded. Is there a way to solve this.

Hello

Thank you for your responses.

The ftp host is shown as ftp.broadh.com and the host field is /broadh.com/.

I asked the host (Bravenet) about this duplicate images folder and explained
the problem to them. Their response was
"Unfortunately we cannot help with third party web editor issues, sorry. You
will need to consult the documentation with your program regarding how to
resolve those conflicts." Not much help really, which is why I'm here!

Thanks again for your support.

Helen

They cannot help with Dreamweaver issues, but they can tell you if your
public HTML files need to be in a particular directory. Poking around in
the Bravenet forums, I find a link to this:
