Default Upgraded computer - 04-01-2006 , 11:18 AM

Hi,
I have upgraded my PC, and cannot find how to get Dreamweaver MX2004 to find
my site files!!
I tried Import, but it is asking for an *.ste file whch seems to be missing.
How can I get the new install to work my existing dreamweaver files?
(I posted this in wrong forum by mistake! Hope someone here can help?)

The site's definitions are saved in the PC's Registry. If you can get to
the old system, start DW, and export the site's definitions. Copy them to
the new computer, and then import them.

the .ste file is the Site Definition. Beginning with DMX 2004, you can
export them (and therefore reimport them later). However, if you didn't do
that, then you have nothing to import. It's a lesson for the future
however. The originals may still be in the Windows Registry .. the path is
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Macromedia/Common/8/Sites for DW8 .. I would
think it would be similar with with MX2004 instead of 8 in the path for DMX
2004 .. although I can't check that since I haven't had DMX 2004 on my
machine for a long time.

If you didn't export them and if you can't find them in the Registry, then
you will have to rebuild them.

Hi,
Thanks for replies. I can't get to the old system, but all the files are on
the website, can I rebuild the site from there?
Failing that I have a backup of my whole C: drive prior to the rebuild, which
files do I need and where does MX2004 expect to find them?

Not the site definition, no.

The FTP login information is in the Registry of the old hard drive. Normally
you have boot on the drive to get at the Registry.

In the future, you can save yourself lots of trouble by exporting a backup
of the site definitions. This will help you with that -

Murray, Nancy,
Many thanks for your help.
Fortunately I was able to restore the backup of my old C: drive, and put that
drive back in the old PC and it booted.
I could then run MX2004, Export the ste to another partition.
Put drive back in new PC, Import ste and all is well thank goodness.
