Default Turn off Office Cut and Paste? - 07-30-2004 , 09:40 AM

I know Macromedia went to all the trouble of building the groovy new Microsoft
Office Cut-and-Paste feature into Dreamweaver MX 2004, but is there any way to
turn it off? I maintain a rather large site for a company and I receive the
majority of my content updates either as Word documents or via Outlook e-mail.
If I cut and paste the text directly into Dreamweaver MX 2004, it adds tons of
font and div and span tags that I really don't want. At this point, the only
way I can figure out to get around this is to copy the original text, paste it
into Notepad, copy it again, and paste it into Dreamweaver. Does anybody have
any suggestions on better workarounds? If I could just turn this feature off,
that would be great.

Thanks,
Jon

There is a menu option to do it. I don't have DW here, so the exact menu
item text may be slightly different, but it's something like:

Edit->Paste as text

No need to copy and paste like that. Just use FILE | Import > Word
Document, and you will get a new page with a relatively clean rendition of
the Word page. Then copy and paste from that document into your web page.

Even Easier is to just copy the text normally and then in DW
Edit>>Paste Text
Does the same thing as using Notepad but without the extra steps.
I like this method because my CSS then configures the text not the
Styles used in MS Word.

That's true. However, my impression of the OP's question was to import the
Word content as unformatted plain text.

Actually, the only impression I got was from this snippet -

If I cut and paste the text directly into Dreamweaver MX 2004, it adds tons
of
font and div and span tags that I really don't want.

I assumed he/she didn't want tons of font and div and span tags. The method
I posted will not give him that, I think....

Everyone, thanks for the feedback. I'm sorry if I wasn't clear when I posted.
Gary is on the right track -- I'm looking to get raw unformatted text into
Dreamweaver. Using Edit > Paste Text works perfectly. I guess I'm just too
tied to my old Control-V to look through all the menus.

Thanks again,
Jon

Thanks again,

You're welcome. You can modify the keyboard shortcuts. Click
Edit->Keyboard Shortcuts. Duplicate the standard factory set, delete the
Ctrl+V shortcut from Edit->Paste and add it to Edit->Paste Text.
