Default Trouble renaming files - 11-26-2004 , 05:17 PM

Trying to rename a folder in one of the sites I get the following message 'A
file or folder with that name already exists', which is not true. I think this
could be a corrupted cache, but have no clue about how to rebuild it or where
it is so I can trash it. Any ideas?

Well, that didn't do it!!! So the the problem must be somewhere else. Any
ideas? Originally posted by: Newsgroup User Site > Advanced > Recreate Site

It would seem that there's a file/folder already using the name you're
trying to change it to, but if you've triple-checked that and you know it
doesn't already exist, I would start investigating wether or not there is
some bad information in the file system that would make DW read frfom old
data instead of what's there.

Have you tried simple things like quitting DW, restarting, maybe even
running Norton Utilities?

I checked but couldnt find anything about this. Anyone know how to fix this.
Its happened to me on many occasions and I causes a huge headache beacause
instead of being able to use Dreamweavers auto link updating by renaming within
dreamweaver I have to do it all by hand and rename the folder outside of
dreamweaver.

I get the same error when trying to rename a folder "A file or folder with
that name already exists" but there is no file or folder with that name and
restarting Dreamweaver and recreating the site cash does not fix it.

Thanks!

Here are the things that will trigger that message -

1. Having another file from the same folder open at the same time in DW
2. Having another file from the same folder open in some other application
at the same time
3. Having Explorer/Finder open with that folder selected

Have you had any of those events occurring?

I'm having exactly the same problem. When I first got it, I re-started
Dreamweaver and that did it (maybe I had a file from the folder open?) Anyway,
it's happening now, and I've made sure that explorer is closed, nothing else is
open, no files are open in DW, etc. Could it be a permissions error?

Hard to say - are you local files actually on your local computer, or are
they on a remote network shared drive?
