Title Tags and Meta tags

I am working on inserting new title tags and meta tags to an existing website.
I used the insert keywords command in the insert toolbar. I went to modify
properties to change the title tags. What I got was the meta tags inserted into
the title tag. Why did this happen and what should I do to avoid this from
happening in the future. Thanks for your help. Nina

Give me the explicit steps you took to make this happen, please.

I set these pages up about a year ago. At that time we put in a title for each
page. I did this by going to Modify>Page Properties>Title /Encoding. I typed
in a Title for the page and saved it. Then when I was finished with this site
I uploaded the files. My client hired a site optimization firm who has given
me a list of changes. These included, changing the Titles on most of the
pages, adding some ALT tags and adding meta descriptions and keywords...meta
words. I'm assuming (yes I know a bad thing) that meta words and keywords are
basically the same thing. So I first went back to Modify.Page PRoperties>
Title/Encoding and replaced the old Title with the new Title. Then I chose the
Insert toolbar and chose the second icon for the head tags. I chose
'Description' and in the text box put in the descriptions. Then I chose
'keywords' and put in the keywords. I saved the page and when I was done I
posted the files to the server. What I got in the code which I did not look at
because I don't write code is the following: <title>Manufacturing Strategy
Consulting- Fulcrum ConsultingWorks Inc.<meta name='description'
content='Rebecca A. Morgan, marketing strategy consultant, works with
organizations to help them overcome operational obstacles to profitable
growth.'> <meta name='keywords' content='Rebecca A. Morgan, Marketing Strategy
Consultant'> </title> This is inccorect. The correct code should look like
this: <title>Manufacturing Strategy Consulting- Fulcrum ConsultingWorks
Inc.</title> <meta name='description' content='Rebecca A. Morgan, marketing
strategy consultant, works with organizations to help them overcome operational
obstacles to profitable growth.'> <meta name='keywords' content='Rebecca A.
Morgan, Marketing Strategy Consultant'> So I went back in put the end tag
where it was supposed to be and I believe that it's OK now. It was showing
everything in the Title...So why did this happen and how do I do this in the
future so this doesn't happen again.
