Might as well ask this here.

Must be loads of people trying to make a living out of this, in your opnion is there work out there for a freelance web designer just now?

Word of mouth mainly?

Good at what?

To get work takes more than just being good at what I presume you mean
good at, regardless of profession.

It's more about marketing yourself. You can be pretty awful and still
get work if you have the right connections.

I'm not particularly good at anything, I'm not that bad either but I'd
like to think I'm well connected, at least I hope so for the coming year.

I've had a huge surge in freelance work as of late. With the economic climate
we're in I found that a surprise at first. I guess people are investing in
their web presence since it quite often can be more affordable than other types
of marketing and advertising.

Murray and Osgood are both spot on of course, and you can't have one with out
the other. It's useless to be good if you don't market yourself properly, and
marketing will only get you so far if you're not any good at the trade.
