Default text jump with flash insertion in Netscape - 03-31-2009 , 05:06 PM

I am starting a liquid, 2 col page plus header footer page. I built up some
text and inserted a flash 400x300 slide show in the right col, and set scale
to exact fit and Vspace and H space to 15. I am aligned to the left so text
wraps around to the right. In design view it looks great, but when I preview in
Netscape, there is a huge

gap in the text and a change in font and
size for one paragraph. Then it returns to normal. When I preview in Internet
Explorer, the text paragraphs look OK but the flash window is empty with a
"broken pane" symbol.

Sorry, I'm really new to DW and though I took a class, these are early steps.

thanks much

John

Can you post a link to the page in question? My understanding is that
Netscape is something not to be too concerned about though. IE, yes.

the page is -- http://www.westvalleyshoji.com/clintstone

The flash does play in IE on the web on my XP machine, BUT

The file does NOT play in the webpage in IE when I click "preview in browser"
on my XP machine (locally)

The flash file from the published site DOES play in netscape on my Win98
machine. BUT

the flash file will NOT play on my Windows 98 machine in IE, even though I
normally never have trouble playing my flash content on the Win 98 machine.
When I go to the page in IE it says...

"You are trying to install Adobe Flash Player ActiveX on an unsupported
operating system. For Flash player system requirements, please see
http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/productinfo/systemreqs

Why is DW invoking this "active X" thing. I've published tons of flash to
websites before using frontpage and never had this problem in IE on Win98.

thanks for any insights

John

Try Tools > Internet Options, Advanced tab

Ensure "Allow active content to run in files on My Computer" is checked.

Don't worry about Netscape. No-one uses it anymore and development has
ceased.

Browsers for testing these days include:
- IE6, 7 & 8
- Firefox 3+
- Google Chrome
- Opera

The poor user is on Win98, so IE6 is all he can use in the IE range. I
dont know about the others.

So not really an ideal OS to be testing on then?

The Internet Option Advanced Tab setting works great, thank you. Hey, I use
Windows 98, actually Seamonkey. It's an extremely cherry 2 monitor system with
4 harddrives in it, loaded with software, and happily going strong. I also have
a 2 mon Windows XP system and a 2 mon G4 system.

I still don't understand why flash placed within frontpage site will play on
IE6/Win98 but the same flash placed in a DW page won't play on IE6/Win98.

best regards

John
