Default Text into table???? - 08-06-2004 , 08:52 AM

I do maintenance on several websites. The problem seems to be that when
they send the information, whether in an email or as an attachment (usually
Word), there is a problem with things that are indented, for instance:

September 4, 2004 Festival of Trees, 6pm to 8pm Contact Sr.
Teresa
September 10, 2004 Friendship Day, 3pm to 4pm Contact Fr. John

When you try to put information like this into a DW page, is there any way
to bring it into a table so that the margins line up neatly?? I can't seem
to find a way to do this. I have to laboriously cut and paste all the
fields into a table, and it takes up a lot of time.

Anyone know a slick way to convert data like this into a table???

Jenna

MX was not so good with Word files.

If it were DMX2004, I'd say just create a new page, use FILE | Import Word
Document and be done with it (after some good proofreading). With MX, you
may need to preprocess the Word document by exporting the text into a comma
separated file and importing it.

Which Word? Use File | Save As... and select the appropriate format from
that list, I believe.

I just got a new computer, so it's Office XP version. I still can't find
any option for text or comma separated file, but there is an html option.
When I tried that, it worked on some things but not on others. Kind of
frustrating, cause there should be some way this could work. I'll keep
fiddling with the options and maybe something will work.

What WOULD work is if they would simply create all these things in tables in
the first place, but they are so computer illiterate that they don't even
know what a table is, much less how to use one, so they space or tab over,
and it makes a mess when you have to try and format the stuff so it actually
looks nice on a web page.

So, what you will have to do is to PUT the text into a table, then convert
the table to text (with commas, or tabs, or whatever as a field delimiter),
then save the file as a TEXT file with an extension of CSV. Dreamweaver can
now import this as tabular data....

What WOULD work is if they would simply create all these things in tables
in
the first place, but they are so computer illiterate that they don't even
know what a table is, much less how to use one, so they space or tab over,
and it makes a mess when you have to try and format the stuff so it
actually
looks nice on a web page.

Which Word? Use File | Save As... and select the appropriate format
from
that list, I believe.

Wow...well it appears that the first problem is that from Word I don't
find
any way to export the data into anything. ???

MX was not so good with Word files.

If it were DMX2004, I'd say just create a new page, use FILE |
Import
Word
Document and be done with it (after some good proofreading).
With
MX,
you
may need to preprocess the Word document by exporting the text
into
a
comma
separated file and importing it.

I do maintenance on several websites. The problem seems
to
be
that
when
they send the information, whether in an email or as an
attachment
(usually
Word), there is a problem with things that are indented,
for
instance:

September 4, 2004 Festival of Trees, 6pm to 8pm
Contact
Sr.
Teresa
September 10, 2004 Friendship Day, 3pm to 4pm
Contact
Fr.
John

When you try to put information like this into a DW page,
is
there
any
way
to bring it into a table so that the margins line up
neatly??
I
can't
seem
to find a way to do this. I have to laboriously cut and
paste
all
the
fields into a table, and it takes up a lot of time.

Anyone know a slick way to convert data like this into a
table???

Jenna
