Default Text button - 08-30-2004 , 06:55 PM

Hi everyone,
i'm trying to create some text buttons for a site i'm
developing for a client
using both photoshop CS and DW. These have to be in gif format so the back is
transparent but the text looks just plain awful. I looked at a few other sites
and their text buttons are gif format so I wondered if there was some method
i'm not aware of to make them look decent ? What i'm doing right now is 15 H X
100 width, text Arial Narrow, black, regular @ 9pt, crisp. Anyone have any
advice on this for me please ?

Regards,
Mitch....

Why do they have to be gif? Why not just actual text and not image at all?

Points (as in 9pt) is for print, not for web, btw.

And Arial narrow will not turn out right with a transparent background. It
is not a "for web" text. Try "Trebuchet MS" or Verdana. Both of these are
great for just text in gifs with transparent backgrounds with anti-aliasing
completely turned off.

I still think you're better off without any images at all, though.

Turn off anti-aliasing completely on the text. I've found that it looks better
that way, especially if you use a "screen font". I've never had a problem with
Arial without anti-aliasing, although it seems people here tend not to like it
for whatever reason. Maybe my eyes are bad and it all blurs into a pleasing
curve and everyone else sees jagged peaks or something.

i tried it.. i turned anitaliasing off and tried 20 different texts and they
all look either jagged or smudged without a background. i had to use a
background and thye looked fine. maybe i did something wrong. but my question
is how do i type directly ina cell and make that an active link but make it
have rollover effects? this will really help cut load times since my iste is
graphic intense. i need to cut as much as possible... thanks.... o yea and to
the guy above who said about the 9pt type.... i know what he means and 9pt is
too msall to use on a site. try 12 or 14 because people with eye problems or
glasses wont be able to see it. when this converts to web it will be mroe like
a 1 or 2 in font size in web terms.

Here is the html and css examples for you to study, copy, paste. There are
several different styles (horizontal, vertical, lists, etc).
