Templates & MM_functions

Does anybody know of a way to stop Dreamweaver MX automatically adding the 'MM_.....' functions to pages created from a template when you update the template?

I stripped the all of the 'MM_...' functions out of the template and put them in an external .js file, but when I updated the pages created from the template, Dreamweaver noticed that the functions weren't in the HTML file anymore, so it put them back, even though the HTML file links to a .js file containing the functions.
