Default Template Nightmare - 11-06-2005 , 10:51 PM

I'm hoping someone can help me out here.

I've inherited the ongoing development and maintenance of a rather large
website that was created using dreamweaver templates which is fine. However all
the html files are located on the server in the public_html directory and check
in / out has been enabled because others need to make updates as well.

Here is where my problem begins, the DWT's are located on the server at the
root level when i download them to my local drive and open all the graphics are
broken because they are hardwired to the image directory inside the public_html
directory.

How the heck do i reconnect the DWT's with the html files? I tried putting
them inside the folder with my html files and when it said update I clicked
update and it wanted to check out all the files on the server and I freaked out
and cancelled it.

I hope this makes sense, if anyone can help me out i'd be greatly appreciative.

Thanks,
Cris...

This is messy.

You will have to:

1. download the entire site
2. relink the graphics using document relative links
3. allow these changes to ripple through all of the local files
4. upload the whole site

How many templates, and how many total files are you managing here?

Thanks for the response Murray,
I sort of tried this yesterday but when it wanted to check out all the files
from the server i freaked out and stopped the process. Is there any way of
doing this without having to check out all the files?

Also the other strange thing i noticed is that when i look at the code on the
templates all the image files are going to /public_html/images but when i look
at the code on the actual html pages they are going to /images?

This thing has me totally puzzled at this point.

Any more guidance or handholding through this process would be helpful. The
site consists of about a dozen templates and is well over a few hundred pages
in size.

Thanks,
Cris...

No.

This is also an error - it means that the original site definition was
incorrect.

Ew. I'd be happy to consult with you on this. Any chance of that?
