Default Template - 09-06-2006 , 02:34 PM

Ok I understand the need to make a Template and the usefullnes of it when
updating websites.

I can create a Template and save it or create a webpage and save it as a
Template.

My quetsion is if I create my first Template as a Master and I want to
me make a new series of Templates , do I just do a "SAVE AS" on the master
template and change the name for all the new webpages required.?.

Also If I ant to update the master template and have the changes aytomatically
update to all the other pages that use that template , how do I do this.

Sorry but the book that I have on the subject is poor on Templates.

Try DW's F1 Help. It's much better for these kinds of things.

Let me caution you that if you are just beginning to use templates, you DO
NOT want to get into nesting them. In fact, you may never want to go there.

If you have made your templates properly, it just happens automatically.

hmmm... you may be a little confused on how to use templates. You have part of
it right. You can save a page as a template but it can get confusing about what
parts you want to make editable and what parts you want to be locked into your
template style.

Better to create a template from the menu, file/new/template page/your choice?
Design the look and feel of your page then save it in a template folder. Then
for all new pages, select File/New/[Templates tab]/your template.
Put in your page specific content then save as yourfile.htm (or .asp, .php,
etc.)

As you work you will decide to add a link to your menu. Open the template
file and make the change. When you save and close it, it will update all of
the template dependant files on your site.

Then you simply use the synchronize feature to upload every file that was
updated by the change.

You only need one template to update all of your pages or one for each style
of page on your site, although, to keep it simple, I wouldn?t use more than
one. Keeps all your pages looking the same, keeps track of all your navigation
links and keeps you from having to change every page on the site, just to add,
edit or remove one feature.

Hope that is helpful
