Default Table column expansion problem - 07-07-2004 , 06:04 PM

Experienced users, please don't laugh, but I'm having a terrible time with a
table setup. I manage a site that has about 50 or 60 pages based on a single
template. This template contains a couple of rows of banner images across the
top, and a column down the left side containing 6 rows. The rows alternate
between a thin spacer image and identically sized graphics. To the right of
this column is a large cell into which I have to put news items and other
textual material that often forces viewers to scroll down the page. When I
fill this cell with large amounts of text, the column on the left expands in
height so that the space between the images grows in proportion to the
scrolling height. Safari allows the text cell to expand in height without a
corresponding expansion in the left column, but Explorer does not. Why is this
happening? To see what I mean, go to www.nrha.org and click one of the news
links. Mac users can view the pages in both Safari and Explorer to see what
I'm talking about. I'm sure I'm doing something stupid, but if anyone can help
I will be their friend forever.

Thanks!

Grode,
Dreamweaver layout mode by the looks of things I'd get out of that
immediately and go to design / code view.

The reason this is happening, is that as soon as you place content into the
right cell (content area) and it is longer than the cell holding your menu
system, it stretches that cell. You should be using nested tables.

Insert a table into the content cell to hold all your content.

Another idea for you too, would be to remove all your font tags and go with
a stylesheet, you would trim down your code considerably
