Default Synchronization with DW8 - 09-25-2005 , 04:19 PM

Has anyone had synchronization problems with DW8? Earlier version of DW have
occasionally given me false positives, asking to upload files when they haven't
changed. But DW8 seems to be missing required uploads, and sometimes reports
that files on the server are more recent when I've just edited the local
version. I went back to MX 2004 and it still works fine, finding files to
upload that DW8 had missed.

YES! It appears that sync in DW8 is practically useless due to BUGS with how
it handles time stamping. Macromedia - HELP!!!! This happens to me when I am
syncing to my co-workers machine (my "test" server). When I work on a file
and then use sync, DW always says I need to "resolve" it (rather than just PUT
the file) If I use DW to PUT the file, the timestamp on the remote is
different than my local timestamp (which confuses any attempt at rational
sync). Arrrgggg.

Just to clarify - It appears that this sync issue is limited to using access
type "Local/Network". So far as I can tell, FTP works OK.

If you turn off "maintain synchronization information" the time stamps will
work correctly (but then sync still doesn't of course).

Good, glad it wasn't just me. I figured something pretty bad was wrong because
it didn't work when I was synching to a test server on the same machine as the
source. Fortunately I still have MX2004 installed and can use that for uploads.

Macromedia folks - I love some of the new features of DW8, but I really need
this problem fixed before I upgrade.

Not just you (or me). I think this is the main issue with the "Reliably crash DW8" topic going on as well as a few others...

As a possible work around I installed FTP servers locally. The TESTING server
now connects via FTP. I'm sad to report that the error still exists. It boils
down to - sync doesn't work on the testing server. If you update a local file,
PUT it and then ask to sync, DW8 doesn't know what's going on and says it needs
to "resolve" the files. Arrrrg.

BUMP. Has this been resolved?
I've just moved up three similar threads...

This sync feature is IMPORTANT.

I'm getting a few dozens Contribute 3 users playing with my site, and I'd like
to keep track of changes so I can make backups on my workstation (and not
directly from the server)...

Any news?

PerfectShot asked:

Any news?

In a word, "no". I've given up on DW8.
