Swapping images in Layers using pop-up menus

I have been trying to figure out a way to swap images using pop-up
menus. We are trying to create the customers ability to design their
own clothing. I am able to do this with lists and buttons but it takes
way to much room up on the screen to make it understandable to the
customer.

What I have done is made Gif's with transparencies, I am wanting to use
pop ups to pick which gifs I want on which layer so the customer can
choose the clothing and colors for each part of the shirt. ie.
sleeves, body, trim, etc.

Is there a way to use pop up windows? or is there another way to
accomplish this that anyone might know about?
