Default This is strange... - 10-31-2005 , 12:12 AM

:confused; This issue might just be one for the books. Recently I have been
unable to view images on only one site (one I work on in DW4) from my computer.
All images appear in preview within DW but when I log out of the program and
open either IE, Firefox or NS 7.2 and point them to my site
(http://willamette-riversps.org), no images appear, just the placeholders.
When I click on a linked image to view a larger image, I get a 403 Forbidden
error message. The strange thing is that it only happens with my computer and
only with this site; when I tried viewing the page with my wife's computer all
the images loaded and were linked properly.

I've checked my firewall and internet settings to verify the site is on the
allowable list and it is.
I checked with the site's host and they suggested clearing my cache and
resetting the defaults on the browser (IE), which I did to no avail.
I even tried reloading the pages of the site from DW4 to the host server and
still no good.

Has anyone else experienced this problem and been able to resolve it? If so,
how did you do it?

Many thanks.

Given the DOCTYPE you have used, there are numerous errors.
Look them over or use a less strict DOCTYPE

See

What is your antivirus - Norton?

Thank you responders and to answer your responses:

To I Need Help!: to the contrary, I still have the problem.
To Mr. Binney: Thanks, I'll try using a transitional doctype.
To TMM: I have Norton Internet Secutiry Professional 2003 Edition

Disable Norton, and then disable it again (most people say they have it
disabled when they don't really). Now try again to see your images.
Different?

Murray, yes, disabling NIS enabled me to see the images. Why would NIS prevent me from viewing only one website's images and not others?

Because that particular set of images matches NIS's criteria for banner ads
or stuff that *should* be blocked, and it does it.

Nothing Norton will ever touch my machines.

Murray, thanks so much for your input. Since you're not a Norton fan, I'm
curious as to what security software you use. Also, other than disposing of
Norton altogether, would you have a work-around fix for my problem?

I have none. My development system is behind a router. It never sees
email, which comes to my Mac. That in itself is an antivirus of sorts.

Before I went "bare" I used PCCillin with good satisfaction. It didn't get
in my way, and I didn't get it its way. 8)
