Default Status bar message - 11-07-2005 , 04:18 AM

Hi,
I noticed that some sites have a message which appears down the bottom of the
browser (The status bar) and sometimes the message is moving from one side to
another... how do you do that?
TIA
Hany

Hi

It's done using a Java script, do a search in google for status bar text

as an example try

http://stud1.tuwien.ac.at/~e9125168/javas/jbounce.html

Many developers make the valid point that such applets tend to annoy viewers
and divert attention from the main page content.

At one point the fashion was to have "mouse trails" will messages drove me
mad

cheers

The status bar belongs to the user's browser and is used to display
important informations. Don't touch it! (Won't work at all in recent
browsers anymore.)

This was a cool trick in 1998. Now it's seen as cheesy and annoying.

Leave the status bar alone. If you put something there you override thne user's ability to see things like the URL of your links and such.

And as Darrel said, it is tacky and bad design.

and unreliable, since most modern browsers allow the user to prevent it.
