Splash Screen?

Can anyone tell me how to create a splash screen? Basically what i want is for
someone to click a link, and a page saying something (like "Please Wait") to
come up for approx 5 seconds, and then to open the page they clicked on the
link for.

5 seconds? Why bother? Splash screens are pretty annoying anyhow.

The user doesn't need 5 seconds to leave the site ...

As Murray said, splash screens are pretty annoying, but if you must, I'd
recommend creating a layer (absol. pos. div) with your please wait text,
and then select the body tag and add a show/hide behaviour on the onLoad
event to hide that layer when everything's loaded. That way you don't
have some arbitrary time delay, and for those on a fast connection, they
wouldn't have to deal with it anyway. (given that you keep your content
size reasonable.)
