Default specific dimensions.... - 11-04-2005 , 10:19 AM

Hi!

After someone clicks the submit button on an e.form I'd like it to
automatically direct the end user to a thank you page.
However, I'd like the thank you page to be like a pop up window...meaning, I
want to define specific dimensions, like 300px x 300px or something like that.
How can I do that to an html page?
Thanks!

There are only two ways to process form data -

1. Use mailto:name (AT) domain (DOT) com as the action of the form
2. Use a server-side scripting method to a) harvest the form's data, b)
process it in some manner, e.g., enter it into a database, c) formulate and
send an email to one or more email recipients, and d) redirect the visitor
to some ending page

Method 1 is quite simple, and is also the least reliable. It depends both
on your visitor having an email client already installed on their computer -
this eliminates public computers, or home users without email clients
installed (more and more it seems) - and on the installed email client
responding to
the mailto call. It is not possible to use this method *and* send the
visitor to a
thank you page as well.

Method 2 is the preferred method, since it eliminates the problems of method
1, but it means that you have to grapple with server-scripting somehow (ASP,
CF, PHP, perl, etc.).

If you want a thank you page, then you would have to use Method 2, so start
by asking your host what they provide for form processing.

We already have it set up & it functions. It's just that after hitting submit,
it goes back to home.
I see where I can edit the script to change to a "thank you"page...but I what
I want to know is if I can define the dimensions of an html page (so it appears
like a pop - up) rather than filling the entirety of the screen?

Thanks!

You would have to open the new window with JavaScript to define its
size. This means you have to call the script on submit. It's possible,
but rather pointless, because it would already show the "thank you"
while the form processing is still running and not complete.

Usually the redirect to a "thank you" page (or a simple message on the
same page) is fired _after_ the form processing is complete. Of course
you can try to open a new window with JS then, but it might get killed
by a pop-up blocker.
