Default sliced images prob - 07-18-2003 , 11:51 AM

Hello,

I'm a bit of a newbie, so I was wondering if anyone can help me out with a prob.
I've set up an HTML page in Dreamweaver MX (on a Mac running OSX)
The page is split into 2 frames. The top frame contains an image, the bottom frame contains all the other content.
To help the download time of the image I have "sliced" it. So to make up 1 image, I have 5 Slices. My problem is that, when I publish the page, if the browser window is not wide enough to show all the slices, then the final slices get dropped down to the next line, and as my topFrame has to be a 'set' size, it does not display the rest of the slices. I have tried Aligning the images Left, but this puts a gap in between all the slices!!

What am I doing wrong? Can anyone help? :O)

First: Do *NOT* use frames unless you have dealt with webdesign a great
deal and know exactly about the problems you inevitably *WILL* encounter
in due course.

A "flat" page, i.e. without any frames will load that top image to the
users computer once only. If it's present in other pages, the browser
will pick it up from the browser's cache - instantly. The millisecond
you might save by using frames is absolutely insignificant compared to
the *huge* advantage of using flat pages.

Second: You don't really need to slice an image. There's a discussion
going on about how much faster (or slower) a siced image will load
compared to the same image in one piece. AFAIK, the ruling opinion is
that 3,4 or 5 slices *might* speed up download a little bit if the
connection is optimal and the user's set-up allows simultaneous connections.

Third: To determine what's causing your problems can not be done with
certainty unless you provide some code (entire page) or a URL to the
page. Please post.
