After having read in this group that the previous versions can be uninstalled safely I did a proper DWMX (and Flash MX) uninstall via the software applet in the control panel and then performed a registry cleaning. |
Then my sites and settings have gone!! |
But I wonder how I could uninstall the previous versions of DW and Flash without losing sites and settings? |
Hi After successfully installing Studio 8 update (Win XP pro) I was happy to see that my DW sites and settings were taken over from DWMX. So I went through the settings panel to adjust new options and started working. After having read in this group that the previous versions can be uninstalled safely I did a proper DWMX (and Flash MX) uninstall via the software applet in the control panel and then performed a registry cleaning. Then my sites and settings have gone!! (And as another special effect right-clicking a quick launch item caused a Contribute installer to launch and ask for the install cd.) I don't know if this has anything to do with the registry cleaning (I use ToniArts's EasyCleaner); anyway I used the Windows system recovery function to undo the uninstallation; now everything works fine, the old versions are here again. But I wonder how I could uninstall the previous versions of DW and Flash without losing sites and settings? -- Markus |

Use the Control Panel to uninstall, and let it go at that. Also, make and keep safe a backup of your site definitions using DW8's Site Export facility. |

I don't want to sound rude or anything, but does Macromedia even have a QA team? |
I did use the Control Panel to uninstall, and I did not clean my registry. My sites were all deleted |
On a similar issue. When I uninstall Flash MX2004 "swf" files are no longer associated with the Flash Player. This was an issue when I unstalled MX2004 too. I can't remember how I fixed it then so I will have to try to figure it out again. |

see any unless you click "All Files" in the file type |

I did use the Control Panel to uninstall, and I did not clean my registry. My sites were all deleted, my extensions were no longer associated with DW8, and my workspace was changed back to the original version on install. On a similar issue. I have had a couple of other issues with Dreamweaver that have been in multiple versions that seem like really basic common things. (example: Click File > Open > look for any .jsp file that you know should be there... you won't see any unless you click "All Files" in the file type.):confused; |

Yes, that's rude. |
Where did you have your site files saved? Were they within one of the native folders in the Program Files/Macromedia/Dreamweaver hierarchy? |
Otherwise I cannot think of any way to have these files deleted. And in the entire time I have participated on these forums (> 4 years) or been involved in testing of these products, I have never seen anyone with these symptoms. |
Sorry I can't comment on this.... |
That's what's selected by default for me - it's not for you? |

Well I am sorry then, I am sure Macromedia has a great QA team |
I guess I am just having a bad day. |
Just to make sure we are on the same page here... I am talking about site definitions. Is that what you were thinking about? |
It defaults to "All Documents", not "All Files". All Documents shows everything that Dreamweaver can handle natively, except jsps that is. |

Yes, that's rude. Well I am sorry then, I am sure Macromedia has a great QA team. I was extremely frustrated when I opened Dreamweaver to discover that all of my sites and settings were gone. Then when I tried to look into the forums there seemed to be some kind of problem with my account. I couldn't see much of the forum content and I had to create a new account to post anything. I guess I am just having a bad day. Where did you have your site files saved? Were they within one of the native folders in the Program Files/Macromedia/Dreamweaver hierarchy? Just to make sure we are on the same page here... I am talking about site definitions. Is that what you were thinking about? All of my source code is still there, only the site definitions were gone. When I created the site definitions I did not move them. I had backups of many of my sites, but not all. Otherwise I cannot think of any way to have these files deleted. And in the entire time I have participated on these forums (> 4 years) or been involved in testing of these products, I have never seen anyone with these symptoms. This would be a first for me as well... Sorry I can't comment on this.... S'ok. I posted a comment on the Flash forum. That's what's selected by default for me - it's not for you? It defaults to "All Documents", not "All Files". All Documents shows everything that Dreamweaver can handle natively, except jsps that is. |
