Default Site statistics from Google - 06-24-2008 , 02:24 PM

I am filling out a proposal letter for a client and was wondering if I should
make site statistics available to them. I don't really like the idea of a
client running through my files on the server. Is there an alternate way of
doing this?

not really sure what google analytics has to do with the client running through the files on your server, but can't you just add them as a user on your g.a. account?

What do you mean, a client running through files on the server? Normally, a
client would check site statistics by logging into to a special page for
that purpose. I'm not sure what you're looking for an alternative to.

If you want to use google analytics - set the client up with their own
google analytics account and verify it on their site. Then they will have
access to stats.

B, what do you mean by "verify"? Setting up a hyperlink to the account?

If I remember correctly.

If you want to use google analytics on a website you have to:

create a google analytics account or use an existing one
then you have to add the piece of code that google creates to your pages
(usually in the footer)

From one google account, you can track more than one website - it also looks
like you can grant access to others so that they only see what you want them
to see - but I have not looked at this in detail - see the help for
analytics

I would rather trust a logfile analyzer like AWStats than Google.

Personally, I use both a log analyzer and Google Analytics since anyone
visiting with javascript disabled will not "show up" in GA but their visit
will be recorded in your access logs.

The thing with server side stats (log files) is that they will also capture
visits from spiders/robots - so you need to remove these from your stats to
get actual visitors.

Google Analytics does not include spiders / robots - but will also not
capture visits from peeps who have javascript turned off.
