Default Compressing a photo - 01-08-2008 , 05:57 PM

I just barely downloaded this dreamweaver program. And I'm pretty new at this
and don't know a lot about it. But I was just wondering how I'm able to take a
picture that's on my Sony Memory Stick and compress it to a much smaller size
-- less than 150 KB. I was told that I could do this with the Dreamweaver
program. Can anyone please help me out with this?

Thanks,

You can't. DW is an HTML editor. You need an Image editor like Fireworks or
Photoshop or The Gimp or the like to do that.

Native...

What photo editing software do you currently own? If you have PS CS1, 2 0r 3
upload the photo through the bridge if it's a RAW images and first make you
adjustments via the RAW converter. The open the image in PS. You can then make
further modifications if you need to. Then once all this is done, save the file
as an 8bit JPEG. Then convert it to sRGB. After that, you are at the point of
resizing the image for the WEB. This is where you need to ask yourself how
large do you want the image to appear on the page. If you want a nice large
image go to file/automate/fit image... a box with open up where you set the
height and width... I would suggest if you want the image to appear large set
both the height and width to 640x640. Now if you are going to create a photo
gallery and want a whole set thumbnails that visitors can click to expand.. the
set you "H" and "W" to a much smaller proportion. After that you then need to
the "save for web" option under "file". Here is where you can further reduce
the physical size of the file. If you are using PS, up in the top lefthand
corner of the screen you will see a set of tabs. I use the "2-up" option which
allows me to view the original photo on the left portion of the screen and the
final minimized and tweaked one (the one that will reside on the web page) on
the right. Below the second you will see a status of how large the final JPEG
file will be and how fast it will open for the viewer.

Hope this helped.

M.
