Default Code coloring doesn't work - 01-05-2008 , 08:06 AM

Hello,

I just wanted to give Adobe Creative Suite CS3 a try in particular
Dreamweaver. So I installed the trial version and fired up Dreamweaver, but
somehow the code coloring doesn't work.

In Edit>Preferences the document is correctly identified as HTML, all the
color values within the HTML Scheme look good, BUT the preview for code
coloring is all black-and-white (text black, background white). Check
http://img299.imageshack.us/content....7/snap1tj1.gif.
View>Code View Options>Syntax Coloring just doesn't work, meaning when i click
it the arrow does not appear.

I hope somebody can tell me what I am doing wrong or what I have to do to
resolve this issue. I had Creative Suite CS2 installed before but uninstalled
it before. System is Windows XP.

Dennis

Dennis,

Do you have the "High Contrast" accessibility option turned on for
Windows? If so, then code coloring is disabled.

HTH,
Randy

VERY interesting direction you are going!

The "Use High Contrast" setting via Control Panel > Accessibility Options >
Display is disabled. I DID have it enabled at some point though just for
giggles. Maybe some registry setting still thinking I am having it enabled? My
current windows theme is also Window Standard so not the High Contrast one.

What is the file extension that you are using? It needs to be defined in
Configuration/DocumentTypes/MMDocumentTypes.xml to get code coloring.

No it's not the file extensions.

I actually went down the road you talked about with the High Contrast settings
and played around with Windows settings.
So I changed to the high contrast setting, started Dreamweaver, nothing.
Switched it off again, started, nothing.
Changed my Windows theme to the standard theme, changed the color quality to
16bit, changed it back to 32bit.

Basically I just changed all those windows settings back and forth and
started dreamweaver here and there.

Code coloring works now!

I don't know exactly what changed it but it works now that's all I care about.
Would be still interesting to see why normal windows stuff changes the behavior
of a program to color text - this should be documented somewhere.
