Default site feedback please :) - 06-23-2004 , 03:28 PM

Hi there
is there any chance you can look at my site and give me some feedback. I do
have a feedback page yet users are not using it, and i am slightly worried as
to if it is ok. I know I am being cheeky here.

I started the site using Dreamweaver 4 and have progressed into dreamweaver
mx. Before i started i didnt know anything at all about websites and how to
create them. So it has been a project for me.
I havent used any fancy stuff like php or java or anything like that unless it
came with easy to use instructions.
I am now looking to make the site onto the next level and could really do with
some tips, directions on what i can do next and where to get some tuition
(free) on modernising it.
Thanks Tommy

Ok, im new to dreamweaver to, so this may not be the most technical of feedback.
Layout seems pretty straight forward and understandable. The date is a neat
touch, but a bit of a waste (most people have the clock and date in the corner
of their screen!). Im no fan of the colour scheme though. Its a bit garish and
can be difficult to read. Maybe bolding the text will help if you really can't
bin the scheme. One last suggestion, how about linking some of the photos to
their full size equivalents? Anyone interested in busses would probably like
this.

Hope this helps

Hi Tommy
People are probably not staying long to use the feedback form due to the
horrendous colour scheme, otherwise the site is pretty good for a beginner.
Also it is best to use sans-serif font on webs ie arial or verdana. Goodluck

Bright yellow text on bright red is a legibility nightmare. This will cause
a LOT of eyestrain. Consider using red sparingly...or any bright background
color for that matter (even white).

Agreed. Heavy red is an alert color - not the best for a website's
background.

I prefer a kind of yellow/orange on a dark red, for example something
like #FEC on #800 (color values in RGB).

And what are those fancy icons on the left, making the site unusable for
me? (I know it's Flash, but I don't have it). They are like a "keep out"
sign. If you care about accessibility you should _never_ use Flash or
Java for navigation, even Javascript is a problem if not used properly.

"People are probably not staying long to use the feedback form due to the
horrendous colour scheme ..." by Judy --- I totally agree with "Judy" cause
that's exactly what I did; As soon as I opened the page, I closed it because
the background color kinda hurts my eyes. If you want to stick with a Red
background color or theme, you might want to consider looking for a different
of red. I've several sites that Red color themes; they're still effective.
Content is good but I think you might want to change font ... maybe arial,
helvetica, or Verdana; in my opinion, it makes a site more professional.

Great job though! Keep it up :-)

Well what can i say :$
So the colour scheme is yuck, well you will be pleased to know that i have now
changed it, to a more deeper colour that doesnt shine so much. I chose Red
background with a yellow font as that is the company colours. It never occured
to me that it would have the effect that it has had.
As for the FONT well i had used the default setting on fonts, however since
you suggested using an alternative i have changed it to the ariel group, and
well i must admit it looks better.

Many Thanks all of you for your feedback it has really helped me.
Its nice to have a forum like this where everyone can ask and collect other
users thoughts and support.

Unfortunately, color schemes are perhaps one he most important parts of a
web site. If the colors just clash and make people cringe it doesn't matter
what the rest of the site is like people just won't stick around long enough
to know or for that matter care.

I have always found creating color schemes hard. I can pick out one color
that I really really like, but picking out the other colors I need that go
well with it (besides, black white and a gray scale of 10% grays) is hard.

If you have use for help in this area take a look at a great program called
Color Schemer or Color Schemer Studio. http://www.colorschemer.com. Both
programs are great and they are affordably priced. There is a demo of them
you can try if you like.
