Default Site check, please? - 08-05-2004 , 06:08 AM

Hi guys,

who is this stranger asking for a site check ;-)
.... someone who used to be here a LOT.

I had a baby two years ago and no contracts. Recently, I got a contract
for a medieval site and I would appreciate if some of you could have a
look and point out anything that I might have missed.

I tested extensively on the PC and a bit on the Mac, but maybe I missed
something. I struggled a lot with the last link, the guestbook. It
consists of a URL to some webserver somewhere. I ended up loading it
into an inline frame, which I have never used before, but it worked well
as far as I can see. Couldn't get it to work in NN4.7x but what the heck.

Make sure you avoid the second link (zum laden). It rips you out of that
medieval feeling because it opens the online shop. The online shop I
didn't do, so I don't care one bit about it.

How do you feel about the loading time, esp. of the start page?
<mumble> it has 100kb</mumble>

Thanks for any comments.

Hi ya Marion,
good to see you back here again - hopefully those clients will keep on
coming :-)

Not sure why this happened, but first time I loaded the guestbook page, IE6
didn't load the IFrame - gave a javascript error. Refreshed the page a few
times and it loaded ok, so not sure what that was aboaut - may have just
been my browser.

I see a small horizontal scroll both in IE6 and Firefox (which may not be
important to you anway) in the inframe.. only tiny, but it is there.

Beautiful work!! I still keep going back to your site eveline-frings
site every so often -

http://www.eveline-frings.com/intro.html if anyone is interested in seeing
Marions gorgeous work
(hope you don't mind Marion - I think it is a piece of art!!)

just make sure you put some content between the <iframe> tags for those
browsers that don't support it. eg. just a link to the guestbook url.

This just happened to me, too, not an error, but it didn't load. I
wonder what I did ... all that fiddling!

I thought I got rid of that. I don't see it on my machine, but I saw it
on my old computer with IE5.5
I'll look into that.

Thanks for looking, Nadia!

Hi Murray,
there will be music at one point. My customer personally knows lots of
bands playing medieval music.

You may want to include other fonts in the family style....
LOL, will do.

2. You may want to check your site here -

http://www.websiteoptimization.com/services/analyze/wso.php
The index page is ~120K
I'll check it out, but I really don't know if I can chop any more. It
used to be 101k but then I added the rollovers in the menu... I had
re-sliced the table and already saved 30k, I exported the jpgs with
selective mask settings. It is huge, but I feel I cannot compromise the
picture any more. It has too much detail.

3. I get an error on the Gaestebuch page (see snip) (IE6/WXPPro) -
Arrggh. I think I had it and then I fiddled with it again and now this
error message. I just visited another customer and looked on his mac and
the guestbook even crashes his IE.... Will fiddle more.

4. That same page locks IE5x/Mac.

I'll come back to this in a bit - but it's good to see you here again!
Nice to still know someone around here. I am afraid I won't be here
frequently, I just cannot keep up with the volume of this forum!

Thanks a lot,
Marion
