simple css

hiya the problem ive got is with www.chapmanjoinery.co.uk.

i decided to design a simple wbsite for a friend of mine.
i designed the website in photoshop
then decided that this would constitute the entire pages (3 pages design).
all i would need to do was create a class style for the background image and
then float and position the nav bars with another class style.

the results are as follows

the website appears but with the background missing (white blank sheet of
paper with three nav bars)
sometimes the website appears as above (but with the writing) !doctypye html
public......

any help would be much appreciated...thanks paul

I don't have a problem seeing the wood grain background with the white
background in the middle of that with the 3 buttons in both Firefox 2 and
IE7.

However, before going any further I'd fix the validation errors on the page,
because they are likely causing any problems you are seeing and may cause
problems with the inner pages you create... better to get this entry page
correct before moving onto the next.

If you're talking about the wood background for the body, I can see it just
fine in Firefox 3.

That is your joinery.html page .. which is missing the initial tag <
