Bummer. It took me a while to perfect it....

How about this -

noscript
script type="text/javascript">document.write("You need to enable js to
see
this stuff")</script
/noscript

Too late, I've already seen something similar on a real website!

Seems to me that every time I see something like that, I just go
somewhere else that isn't so restrictive. ;-)

Wow, go away for a few days and I find a whole conversation in the topic...

Mike, I know that the user can use the 'x' button, but I was trying to be
clever and design it myself... I'll have a go just to see if I can do it but
may not use it in the final pages if it can cause problems.

What do you guys recommend me to learn after HTML and CSS? I think that I
have a basic knowledge of these now, and I am armed with the CSS Anthology so
anything CSS is pretty simple to accomplish. Murray, any recommendations?

Go back and learn them again. If you have a thorough understanding of both,
you will be in great shape. The next step would be either to tackle a
server-side language of some sort: PHP, ASP, ASP.Net, CF, etc., or to branch
off into the world of XHTML, XML, XSLT, RSS, etc.

Thanks Murray. How good do you think the Sitepoint CSS Anthology is? This has
helped me in a very big way, along with Adrian Seniors tutorials. Would this
give me an advanced knowledge of CSS is I worked through all of the examples?
In terms of HTML, I have just picked that up along the way and I understand the
basic tutorials on the w3schools website. I'll spend some time on a weekend
and work through the advanced tutorials.

I have a friend who has recommended that I learn PHP, so (with your
recommendation) I think that I'll go with that.

Thanks for your advice.

I would say that if you can build a site using CSS for layout, and have it
pass validation, you would have arrived. Any thing that helps you achieve
that goal is worth an investment of your time. This would be ACTIVE
knowledge, not passive knowledge (like nodding your head when you read
through tutorials, you know?)....

Yeah, I'm never one for learning through reading... which is why Adrian's
tutorials have been so good. Web design, although enjoyable makes my brain
switch off if I have to read long paragraphs of explanation. It's much better
to get your hands dirty, you learn alot more. This website will be completed
in the near future (a couple of weeks, hopefully less than that) so when it is
I'll drop you the url to see what you think.... you can either have a good
laugh, or tell me that I have finally reached the promised land.
