Default Shopping Cart - 01-03-2006 , 06:13 PM

I have a small biz client, a woman who makes products in her home, who wants to
sell online. Initially I had planned to use PayPal, but now it turns out there
are a number of variables with her purchase options that have created a
stumbling block.

Examples: Product Blue comes in four possible variations, all with the same
price.

Product Red comes in only three of those variations. But on occasion might
have the 4th variation available. Or it might only be available in 2 options.
Basically, there's no consistency at all, nothing is standardized. She has
about 75 different products/styles.

She also wants to give a discount if the customer purchases a product from
Category X and one from Category Y - they get another product from either
category at a lower price.

She's also hoping that she can update all of this herself - with absolutely no
web experience.

So I'm not sure what to do at this point. She's on a limited budget, and I'm
not a programmer so don't want to get into too much fancy shopping cart stuff.
I had planned to use PayPal before I found out exactly how chaotic her product
options were.

Sorry if I'm rambling, but if anyone has any relatively simple, inexpensive
solutions that would be cool.

-Jesse

She is going to need something more than a basic shopping cart, but it doesn't
have to be expensive. For example,
http://www.vpasp.com/virtprog/info/faq_discounts.htm looks like it might fit
the bill.

I would have her create a difference product number for each variable product.

http://crystaltech.com/ctzencart.htm

comes free with an account. I've not used it, but have heard it is
fairly easy and flexible. Worth checking out. Crystaltech.com is a
really good webhost.

Thanks, Kenski. Since she has 75 different items, each with up to 4 possible differences, that seems very cumbersome to do...for the visitor, as well as the client to update.

You could look at VPASP:
http://www.vpasp.com/shopaff.asp?affid=277

It's an aff link - but won't matter in this case, because VPASP have just
released a fully functioning free version of their cart. The free version
may be all you need - if not, there are add ons that can be purchased
separately.

Why not take it for a test drive. It is great for a non-programmer such as
your client. Windows and unix versions are available.

Nadia,

Have you used VP-ASP? How different is it from YVS (in particular the
OS500 pak)?

The price is sure right, even for the Plus pac or Deluxe pac, if it's
as easy to use.

Win,

I've got myself the freebie earlier today. I've downloaded the files (which
are emailed to you). I have set it up locally and looking at the files,
pretty much the same as YVS. The way the pages are build reminds me of the
early VPASP days, where there was a header and footer fiile that can be
changed as needed.

The look is definitely NOT the old VPASP ;-) not sure if you ever
saw/worked with the old version - was a horrible looking interface until Cam
reworked the original to come up with the VYStore versions.

In Cams' words: " VPASP Version 6.00 is a combination of VPASP, YVS and
OS500 so it has the best of all products in one package."

From the little I've seen, it appears to be true - much nicer to look at and
probably easier to work with than Oxford St.
The admin panel alone looks much more robust and shall I say 'professional'
The help docs which would be based on the original vpasp and updated
look much better than the YVS ones - at least they do on a quick look
through.

I believe that YVS may not be around much longer, it is being superceded
with the new VPASP ...... I'd suggest you sign up for the freebie (you can
go via my link above) and trial it yourself. I think you'll like it.

As you say - the price definitely looks good !
