The Shockwave player is available for download on the Macromedia site.

I think you misunderstood me. I own director and have the shockwave player
installed, Dreamweaver MX 2004 is not finding the plugin in either the
Explorer Plugins our the configuration/plugins folder... But I have the
player, this is why I am confused.

Older versions of DW needed to have the plug-in in the plug-ins folder for
Netscape. Do you have Netscape and a Shockwave plug-in for it?

But perhaps this has changed. I don't have 2004 so I can't tell you any more
than that. Sorry.

For "How can I preview Shockwave content in DW/Win?" then, if the
Shockwave Plugin is not already in the Dreamweaver Plugin directory,
visit the Macromedia site in any plugin-using browser (Mozilla family,
Opera, etc), and install the Shockwave Plugin. You can then bring this
Plugin from one folder to another.

(IE/Win uses ActiveX Controls rather than Netscape Plugins... the
mechanism is signficantly different.)
