Default sftp won't connect with CS3 - 10-28-2007 , 07:53 PM

I'm having a strange problem, and I hope someone can help. I've searched the
forums and talked twice to Adobe support, and still haven't solved it.

The server where most of my sites are hosted uses SFTP. It worked fine with
DW8. Now, when I try to connect, I get a message that it can't connect, maybe
the server is down or not accepting connections (not true). Then I crash, with
the little Windows XP box that says Dreamweaver CS3 has encountered and error
and has to close.

My server guy tells me he can see me connect and then immediately disconnect.

I have tried all the troubleshooting things: added the port number to the ftp
address, removed the sshhosts file, deleted my configuration files, etc.
Nothing makes a difference.

Now the weirdness: Adobe support had me create a new Windows user. That user
CAN connect! So apparently some piece of software (installed since I installed
CS3, I guess) is blocking my connection. I uninstalled my QuickTime/iTunes,
which I had installed after CS3, but that didn't do it. I've cleaned the
registry. I've run various spyware/antivirus/etc. utilities. Still no
connection.

This is the server I am paying for. It isn't acceptable to me that I can't
use a key feature of DW, my primary web development tool, with it.

Any ideas? Many thanks.
Mary

Mary - have you tried to connect with a third party ftp client, like
filezilla and see if that works?
Maybe something else is blocking your connections, and in doing so crashing
DW?

Oops, I knew I'd forget a key detail. Yes, I can connect with both FileZilla and WSFTP.

I am having the same problem. I can connect and upload files just fine
with my sftp client (ftpVoyager).
But CS3 refuses to connect.

I'm marking this as the answer, even though I don't consider it a satisfactory
one. I ended up reinstalling DW, and now I can connect to my SFTP server. I
still don't understand why I couldn't. This bugs me, because it could happen
again.

(And, I might add, it took a whole afternoon to uninstall and reinstall,
during which time I couldn't use other programs on the computer. Grrr.)
