Default setting point values in CSS...bugged? - 06-19-2004 , 09:28 AM

Is this a CSS bug, or a master override setting? I'm currently ploughing
through CSS with the aid of Khristine Annwn Page's DWMX 2004 training from the
source book.

I was attempting to edit a paragraph <p> in CSS which I'd set up using point
values for the Font size and Line height (as instructed on p.214, item 6).
But later when I came to edit them (on p.221, item 3) I noticed that the point
values had changed to pixel values. So I put it down as my error and changed
them back to points with the aid of the CSS style definition dialogue box. I
click ok. I then select <p> again to attempt an edit and sure enough, the point
values have reverted back go pixel values again. I also noticed that every CSS
style sheet where I have set point values for example <h3> (p212, item 3);
<ol> (p.215, items 7 & 8) and <h4> (p216, item 9) are now showing a pixel
values and can't be edited to show a points value.

I don't know if this is because of a master override setting in dwmx04, or is
this a bug? I'm using the latest upgrade 7.0.1. Can anyone shed some light on
this?

If this book is recommending that you use a print character metric (points)
for web work, then you should put the book down in a secure place and lock
it up.

Please use pixels, ems, exs, percent, or size-names for web pages, not
points.

The ideal such secure place would be an incinerator. (Although, in
fairness, it might only be be necessary to lock up the chapter on using
CSS, not the whole book, since it sounds like its focus was DWMX and not
CSS.)

Amen, brother.

unless of of course you're writing your styles for the print
style sheet?!

In which case the styles are being used for a printed document, not a
web page. The two are very, very different, even if they come from the
same HTML file.
