Scrolling text and image fields

The above link goes to the Bloc Pary home page. I know numerous other website
incorporate the same scrolling fields, but they were on my mind this afternoon.

I see the javascript in the source, but I have never used java. Is this the
only way to acheive this effect or is there another way? I basically want to
create a website with a fixed size and I do not want to use Flash. I will have
a few image galleries and this will make my page much larger without the
scrolling fields.

So, in summary, I want to create a scrolling text or image field with
sustomizable scroll buttons (like the up and down buttons on the Bloc Party
site). If anyone could point me in the right direction, I would be thankful.

If all else fails... a good old flash file allows you to customize scrollbars
and everything else ! make it the size of the scrollbox and insert it in
dreamweaver... There are tons of tutorials on the macromedia site about how to
create a scrolling text box in flash...

You can achieve the same "effect" essentially, using DIVs and CSS; however,
you'll need to accept the fact that the scrollbar on the right hand side will
