Default Scrolling links - 08-06-2004 , 03:38 PM

I would like to place all my links which are 105X45 squares into a box and have
them scroll automatically when my site is opened. I would also like them to
stop when a user puts their mouse on the box. The links would scroll
continuously until a mouseover and then they would continue when the user moves
their mouse from the box.

The scrolling link box is at the bottom left side of the template.

Thanks, Echo

VIEW >> SOURCE will show you that it is done thusly:

<MARQUEE onmouseover=this.stop() onmouseout=this.start() scrollAmount=2
scrollDelay=50 direction=up height=200>

As Darrel said, it's a <marquee> tag.

Be aware that this tag is IE only and therefore no x-browser.

It seems to work in FireFox...which is actually a bit odd...

They are considering it seriously because of the Chinese market.
Apparently the Chinese love the marquee tag and Mozilla, Safari, and
Opera see it as a matter of not giving Microsoft any more of a leg up
then they already have.

Hell-born creatures like <blink> and <marquee> not only work in IE, they
(partly? all?) also work in recent Mozillas and Operas.

Not in Opera. In Opera they are static, not scrolling.

It's likely a markup issue. Marquee does work in Opera 7.x if set up
properly.

marquee><blink>foo</blink></marquee

Works in Opera (7.53) and Firefox (0.9.2).
