Default Safari Browser...getting the page to fit neatly - 11-08-2005 , 10:11 AM

I have the following website http://www.vertigostudios.co.uk and whilst it fits
nicely on Firefox and IE6 its a little small on Safari. Now because I've
implemented fixed table heights and width this appears to be the main problem.

How have other designers got around this problem? Is it worth changing the
fixed sizes attributes on the web page and subsequently have an unsightly
scroll bar on both Firefox and IE6 just to accomodate Safari or should I just
leave it alone.

Help appreciated.

As long as you have a fixed-dimension web site, it's not going to "fit"
exactly as you would hope on everyone's viewport. In my opinion, design the
site in a fashion that best describes its intent, and design for the
majority of your audience. If it requires a bit of scrolling for some
folks, then so be it.

That being said, though, I've got my machine set to 1280x1024 with the
viewport maximized, and your site is taking up nearly my entire window. I'm
am definitely not in the majority with my settings, and I don't ever
maximize my browser window. So, with the majority of the casual browsers
still using 800x600 to 1024x768, no matter what, the user will be scrolling.
I'd seriously consider scalling it down a tad.

Here's a pretty comprehensive reference regarding viewport/window sizes:

Just my opinion, however. Others' mileage may vary.

Best regards,
Chris
