Of course, but probably not by someone unfamiliar with HTML/CSS/Server
scripting methods.

Get a copy of David Powers book "Dreamweaver CS3, CSS, AJAX, and PHP" In an
easy step by step approach this book will give you the knowledge to build a
site with a usable CMS.

Can you imagine turning an HTML neophyte loose on Wordpress? <shudder>

Updating results, matches etc would not be a problem in WP. No one gets
near the html/css/php once its all set up... actually not even when it
gets set up. You have to open pages in DW to mess it up.

Who sets it up? That's the question.

I see more and more clubs using wiki formats. Our local kids soccer club is
using this http://pbwiki.com/business.wiki.

Easy to customize and admin. Probably doesn't have the flexibility and look
and feel of a custom website, but it's easy and cost effective.

I could do that Seriously... as I read the OP post I understand it's
the rugby club that wants to update... not build the site. But I could
be wrong... happened more than once

i beg to differ. i think one of the great things about wordpress (assuming
you're using one of the 100's or 1000's of templates that exist out there) is
that you can completely ignorant of html and still turn out a fairly decent
blog. i have several clients using it and the feedback that i get is that it's
almost foolproof in its simplicity.
