Restricted areas

Hello there,

I'm new to this community. I started with internet in the beginning of the
'90s at Delft University. I used to work with Unix and recently has to work
with windows. I need to find a solution for restricted area's for students
only. In the Unix area you just put a .access file in the directory and
everythink behind that point is restricted. Is there a similar solution in
Windows?
I'm using Coldfusion, SQL-server (login and paswords) and Dreamweaver to
manage the site.
I heard that you can make a coldfusion script that makes the .cfm files
hidden, but not .ppt, .pdf or .doc files.

Can anybody helpme with a solution?
