Default relinking nested templates - 11-04-2005 , 10:05 AM

Hi, newbie to nested templates here.

I have three levels of templates: the main one which I use to change the
navigation of my whole site

the sector template - which I use for sector-wide changes (such as
sub-navigation)

the pages template for each sector - where I can only change the main body of
the text (which has the look from the sector template)

In other words the main template is the parent of the sector template and the
sector template is the parent of the pages template for that sector (hope that
makes sense).

Right. Rather than go to all the trouble of making brand new templates for
each sector I have in the site, I just want to duplicate the sector templates
(which I can easily do by duplicating and renaming them), but I also need to
make sure that the pages templates for each sector now point to the appropriate
sector template (currently they all point to that first sector as the parent).

I can see the code in the code view window, I know the line of text I want to
change, but it is greyed out so I can't edit it. Is there are way to alter this
text (a way to make the code editable?), or should I do this the old fashioned
way and take the page into text edit and change it there???

I don't much care for this approach - nested templates *always* make your
life more complex, not less complex.

However, the easy way to do what you want would be to just apply the new
template to the page. Since these pages are already based on an existing
template, there will be no problem with editable region names and content.
