how are you sending the files?
If sending by CD or Zip disk, suggest you compress the site folder into a
..zip archive first. That will preserve filenames and file relationships.

If the site is uploaded to hosting- it should not be problem, as long as the
site is correctly defined on both machines (the "homepage" in the root level
of the Local Site)

what version of dreamweaver and mac os is the mac person using?
If dw4- the template syntax from MX and 2004 won't work without some
modification.

If mx or older- there will be a filename length issue possibly.

I've just finished creating a site on Windows and getting ready to pass it on
to another developer using a mac. When I've done this in the past, links to
templates and library items got lost or corrupted. The mac developer had to
reconnect all the pages to the templates/library items by hand. It's also
possible that the other developer had a different version of Dreamweaver.

Is there any way to move sites between versions/platforms more automatically?
I'm working with DreamweaverMX 2004 7.01.

TIA - Bill

Thanks Mark;

I will definitely be sending it as an archive file (stuff-it since the other
developer is on a Mac). Your response makes it sound like it would be better
for the other developer to define the site ahead of time and do a "Get" of the
whole site from the host?

What is the filename length limitation in Dreamweaver MX (she's using DWMX v6
Mac)? I assume I could rename the files/folders at issue to elminate this
problem.

You don't have to send the files as a stuffit archive. A Mac user that has
Stuffit installed will also read zip files (or .gzip, .tar or .gtar if he/she
is using OS X). As for the file names length, it depends: its 32 characters if
using OS 9 but OS X will be happy with file names up to 255 characters. You
should export your site before sending it to the Mac.

Hi Joaquim -

Export? There's nothing in the help files about exporting a site. How do I do
that?

osX is happy with long filenames, but dw MX on osX will only take the same
32 total max characters as os9, and will have site management issues with
filenames between 26 and 32 total including the . and extension

so it would be best to rename the files and folders on your machine to a max
of 26 total characters

MX 2004 on mac has no issues with filename length.

Yes- you can send them a Zip archive, Stuffit on every mac will expand it
fine.

I think Joaquim meant Export the site definition- under site-->manage sites.
That will make a copy of the ftp info if you choose the Include All info
option. They will have to edit the site definition after they import it, so
it's pointed to the right Local Folder where they put the files.

Thanks Alan! This has as much information as I could hope for. I hope this
works out!
