Please tell me what you have in each field of your Testing Server
definition.

Macromedia insists that I have not set up a testing server even though I
have
defined my IIS settings. I have also connected a database and created
recordsets by dragging and dropping tables from the database (I couldnt
use
bindings because it said that I have no testing server) but even though I
have
recordsets I cant use other live content such as navigation bars because
dreamweaver insists I dont have a testing server. What can I do?

Cheers

What do you get when you browse to http://localhost? What do you get when
you browse to http://localhost/TDSFdemoSite?

When i browse to localhost my browser asks me for a username and password. If I
browse to the sites root folder i get the directory listing denied error. I
can view pages over the test server, but dreamweaver wont let me add any live
content.

I just set up a new site and entered the testing server details and still i'm
not getting the check mark. What are the pre-requisites for gettting that
checkmark? Just entering the correct details in the test server definaition
pallette?

It's now appears to be sorted, I turned off DCOM some time ago due to the security issues it presented, now it has been enabled it appears to be working flawlessly.

describe in more detail what you did to turn DCOM back on? I don't recall ever
turning it off, so I'm not sure if this would help me or not.

I doubt it is the problem if you have not turned of distributed COM yourself,
however the solution should be as follows:

I trust you have Windows XP Pro

Start... Run... dcomcnfg

Open component services, click computers and your computers should appear in
the main panel. Right click the computer you want to alter the properties of
(in your case 'My Computer' probably) click properties. Choose the 'default
properties' tab and make sure '
Enable Distributed COM on this computer' is checked. You may also need to
enable COM internet services too depending on what you are doing.
