would it be easier to create and name the page in the F8 Site Manager
window?
right-click or control-click then type the name.ext you want it to be

added benefit, seeing the file list will help to remember what this site
uses for .ext

Other than manually re-entering the extension
when I create a page or changing the XML document, is there an easier way to
toggle between these?

Alan -- thanks for the suggestion; yes, I've done that, too.

Typing a few extra characters isn't a problem. But what mystifies me is why
the decision was made at Macromedia to ship DW with a default setting of .htm
and then require modification of XML to set it to .html -- or whatever. Plenty
of other applications allow this option to be set from the preferences.

They shipped DW with a default of htm so it would be compatible with
Contribute, as I recall.
