Shame on MicroSoft.

Good grief. Why do you say stuff like that here - it helps nobody, except
possibly you. It's likely that those who use IE5 are those who choose to
use it for whatever reason.
To be fair the same thing could be said about all-js menus. That some prefer
to use them for whatever reason. I'm not strying to start an argument or
debate or anything like that ... so you know.

I don't know if I would use the word "trash" for IE's reputation but
"inform" would be a good one. There are very valid reasons not to use it as
well, and these reasons are more serious than the reasons behind using
all-js menus.

oops...

I should have added, there are suitable workarounds for both if one wants or
needs to use them.

Trent:

Of course, I disagree.

I know many people who have OS9 and no intention of updating to OSX, or
inadequate hardware. This means that they are stuck with IE for the
duration of the life of their hardware. It's simply not the same with the
js menus. I'll bet that 90% of the people who use them have made a
completely uninformed decision to do so, simply because they trusted MM.
That's the sad part about these death traps ever being included in the
product.

Again, those who are using IE5 will never hear, or be aware of, or care
about these reasons.

However, I can do everything I can to stop developers from using MM pop-up
(and most all-javascript menus).

I have been very active in our local Apple User Group and know more than a
few people who are stuck on old hardware and/or OS9. I feel quite confident
in saying that I don't believe that a one of them uses IE on their systems.
Most use Firebird or Camino or some such. The OSX users are even less likely
to use IE on their systems. Personally, I use Firefox and Safari for my
browsing and only open IE for testing pages.

I guess what I'm trying to say, is that you don't have to trash IE to Mac
users. It seems that most of them have already figured out for themselves,
that IE for the Mac, is just a little above worthless. If the only problem
with a site that I develop, appears only on IE for the Mac, I am not
inclined to waste much time fixing it, since IE users on Macs probably only
comprise about 5% of the Mac market, which is only about 3 or 4% of the
total market.

John:

You are talking about people who are enough interested in computers to give
a hoot what browser they use. I am talking about John Q. Public who doesn't
know from nothing about browsers. I don't know a single one of those people
who even knows that there is a choice, and wouldn't have the slightest
interest in joining a local user group. They use the computer for email and
surfing.

Demographic is everything.
